Solar Frontier Develops CIS Solar Cell with 22.3% Efficiency

Japan's Solar Frontier announced on December 8, 2015 that the unit conversion efficiency of CIS solar cells has reached 22.3%. This is the joint research result of the company and the Japanese New Energy Industry Technology Development Agency (NEDO). The company said, "This exceeds the previous record of 21.7% for ultra-thin solar cells and exceeds that of polysilicon solar cells." The measurements were determined by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany.

Solar Frontier announced in April 2014 that the unit conversion efficiency of CIS solar cells reached 20.9%, which is 1.4% higher than the previous time. The total cell area is 0.5cm2. The company said, "The performance improvement is achieved by improving the surface quality of the CIS light absorbing layer and improving the bonding formation technology."
