Laser cladding achieves dual functions of wear resistance and friction reduction

There are two main methods for reducing the wear of parts. One is to use hard materials to improve wear resistance; the other is to use friction reducing materials to reduce the friction coefficient. This project uses laser non-equilibrium synthesis technology to add nano-hard hard wear-resistant phase (TiB ₂ , TiC, WC) and friction-reduction phase (h-BN, h-WS ₂ , h-MoS ₂ ) to the surface of the material for rapid synthesis. The metal-based wear-resistant anti-friction composite layer combines wear-resistance and friction-reduction with the nano-wearing phase and the small size effect of the friction-reducing phase, which is a breakthrough in the field of surface engineering.

Figure 1 shows the microstructure of the cladding layer. It can be seen that there are a large number of nano-scale h-WS ₂ and WC phases in the cladding layer. The friction and wear results are shown in Figure 2.
