The integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM is one of the key technologies of CIMS. At present, there are three main methods of integration, namely, the special integration method of CAD system and CAPP system based on geometric modeling, the general integration method of CAD system and CAPP system, and the integration method of CAD and CAPP system through shared database. In the CIMS we implemented, the CAD/CAPP/CAM subsystems are based on the same PDM product IMAN (Information Management) integration platform. On the basis of the platform, according to the STEP standard, the integration of the feature format file and the shared database is used to realize the information integration between CAD, CAPP and CAM.

1. Overview of PDM product features

PDM is a software-based technology that integrates and manages information and processes related to products. To sum up, PDM mainly has the following functions: document management; product structure and configuration functions; workflow control.

As one of the PDM products, IMAN is based on the relational database system ORACLE, plus an object-oriented layer. IMAN users can manipulate the data in the project database through the interface layer UIL (UserInterfaceLayer). It can be implemented interactively or by using the IMAN-ITK (IntegratedToolkit) development tool to achieve programming, which greatly enriches the way to access data.

2. Overview of CAD, CAPP and CAM application systems based on PDM

2.1 CAD feature modeling system

Based on the I-DEAS software, the CAD system adopts the feature modeling method. Based on the features defined by I-DEAS, the external feature library is built and the full information model of the part is generated. After further information extraction and matching, the design information is transmitted to CAPP, thus meeting the needs of CAD/CAPP/CAM integration.

2.2 Generative CAPP System

The Chuangcheng CAPP system uses the feature framework theory to build the part feature information model, design the expert system, and create the part process based on the process resource library and the process knowledge base. Based on feature tree theory and feature-oriented classification theory, the CAPP system considers the part as a feature tree composed of many shape features, classifies and generalizes the features of the parts, and uses IDEF1x method to model.

2.3 CAM system

The CAM system is based on the I-DEAS software GM (GeneralManufacturing) module. According to the process content generated by the CAPP system, the machining parameters are generated, and the tool position file generation and machining path simulation are realized. After the post processing, the NC program is automatically generated. .
