Recently, China Shipbuilding Industry Association announced the economic operation of China's shipbuilding industry from January to April. In April, the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) rebounded significantly. China's shipbuilding completion volume continued to grow. The number of new ship orders decreased year-on-year, but the decline narrowed. From January to April, the national shipbuilding completion was 13.25 million DWT, an increase of 13.3%. The order volume of new ships was 9.49 million DWT, down 47.3% year-on-year. Compared with the year-on-year decrease of 70.4% in new ship orders from January to March, the decline narrowed by 23.1%. At the end of April, the order volume of hand-held ships was 85.55 million DWT, down 8% year-on-year and 4.2% lower than the end of 2018. From January to April, the country's completed export ship 12.23 million DWT, an increase of 13.7%; the export ship orders 8.74 million DWT, down 47.7%. At the end of April, the volume of orders for hand-held export vessels was 77.17 million DWT, a year-on-year decrease of 8.2%. China's export ships accounted for 93.5%, 92.1% and 90.2% of the nation's shipbuilding completions, new orders and hand-held orders, respectively.
