Fudan Research Team Lets Carbon Nanotubes Produce Electricity from the Bloodstream

In order to power the wearable devices, engineers thought about ways to use the body to generate electricity. Now, a research team at Fudan University has proposed a method that uses carbon nanotube fibers to generate electricity from the blood stream. The research report was published in the journal Angewandte Chemie. They have not tested this new power generation technology on animals.

Researchers call their system a mini version of hydropower, but the principles of the two are different. The carbon nanotube fibers are in contact with the salt solution, and the interface between the immersed nanotubes and the solution will form an electric double layer. The surface of the nanotubes is negatively charged and the thin layer of the solution is positively charged.

When the solution flows, the negative ions in the solution and the electrons in the nanotubes will try to balance the double layer, but with less success, the front part of the fluid will generate more charges, creating a potential difference between the two ends of the nanotube fibers. Voltage and current.
