New material technology for non-ferrous metals won national support

Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Administration of Taxation jointly issued the revised "Notification on Administrative Measures for the Determination of High-tech Enterprises," clarifying that the state will give priority to supporting the eight major areas of high-tech, and the new non-ferrous metal materials industry will be short-listed.

The notice pointed out that the new material areas include metal materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, polymer materials, biomedical materials and so on. Related to the nonferrous metal industry include clean production and deep processing of aluminum, copper, magnesium and titanium alloys, preparation of rare and rare earth metal products, preparation and application of new materials for nano and powder metallurgy, and preparation of new metal and metal matrix composite materials. As well as aircraft manufacturing and material technology in the aerospace technology, new material master alloy/preparation of raw materials, advanced production and processing of new materials, etc.

In the documents issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the proportion of new metal materials in the new material area is relatively large. It is reported that during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, the new materials industry has become one of the key support development areas in China. The development of strategic emerging industries is an important means to enhance China’s national competitiveness. The new materials industry is the cornerstone of industrial development and a crutch. At present, the output of many basic raw materials and industrial products in China ranks among the top in the world. However, some high-performance materials, high-tech materials, and materials and components in the core fields still need to be imported. While China's manufacturing is changing to “China’s intellectual creation”, it is necessary to make breakthroughs in key material technologies, whether in the development of important areas such as large aircrafts, high-speed trains, or electric vehicles.
