Fujian shoe exports hit a record high

In the first half of this year, the value of footwear exported by the Fujian Inspection and Quarantine Bureau was 3.035 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 20.9%, an increase of 14.0% over the same period of 2008, and the highest level of footwear export history. Particularly gratifying is the three major changes in footwear exports:

First, the proportion of exports from leading enterprises has increased. In the first half of the year, a total of 59 footwear enterprises exported more than US$10 million, of which two exceeded US$50 million. The export value of these 59 footwear enterprises accounted for 38.2% of the total value of exports, an increase of 9.1 percentage points over the same period in 2009.

Second, product development and innovation capabilities have become stronger. The plastics and beach shoes in the Fuzhou area and the sports and leisure shoes in the Quanzhou and Quanzhou areas have gradually become prominent, forming a regional footwear export cluster in the coastal cities. In addition to the innovations in traditional footwear styles, the company has also increased Research and development efforts have led to the development of new varieties of nano shoes and eco shoes, which have effectively promoted export growth.

The third is that the average export price has become higher. The average export unit price for footwear has increased from US$2.597 per pair in 2008 to US$2.725 per pair in 2009 and rose to US$2.983 per pair in the first half of the year. This also reflects the fact that the structure of footwear products in Fujian is constantly developing toward high-end and high value-added.
