Scientists first inject pathogens into plant cells and then use genetic techniques to individually inhibit each enzyme in a particular set of enzymes. The results showed that when the protein kinase “SIPK†was inhibited, the production of reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen in the plant slowed down significantly, resulting in a very insignificant immune response in plants. The scientists therefore concluded that "SIPK" is an enzyme that controls the immune response of plants.
